Cadbury takes a bath

Hello,

Anyone who is conscious of the above brand, especially chocolate lovers will be outraged at my title; 😱dunking their favourite slab of milk chocolate would be an unpardonable crime. But relax, I'm actually referring to the latest addition to our family of.....soft toys!

My love for soft toys is, one of the few girlie traits I've had, in my mostly tomboyish youth.  Not only, I own a collection of these plush beauties, have upped the ante by naming all of them. For me, they gotta have names, period!! Hence the newest member to our home, who is swathed in my favorite color; Purple, was aptly christened 'Cadbury'

Meet Cadbury!! The li'l devil :
As a rule, all new clothes or plush toys crossing our threshold have to be washed; if required dunked in some 'dettol' too (itz a mild OCD regarding germs n bacteria) So 'Cadbury had to take a bath too.

The bigger task started after the bath; drying him on the clothes rack in our balcony! Whole day was nerve wracking, with thoughts of some errant bird, swooping down & carrying off my Cadbury; which didn't happen, thank god! By evening he was crisp & clean to be cocooned in my favourite lounge-chair.

Speaking of cocoons, I made 'Pigs in a Blanket' for our evening tea/coffee snack.
Usually I make a big batch of various kinda savory puff pastries & freeze them; it becomes easy to just pull out as much required for a quick snack. We have a decent oven which is the heart of my baking world, however it fuels on gas (LPG) which is unsuitable or rather waste of energy for baking small quantities.

This is where the microwave comes handy; the only flaw is the underside of the puff is not browned enough or crisp, something which was observed even when baking cookies. Of course, no rocket science here, as the oven flame is based at the bottom, taking care of the underside of the puff, in a microwave the heat coils are normally placed on the side or top.

Attempting an experiment, I placed a 1/2 inch height wire rack on the base plate & put the aluminum/tin baking-plate on the wire-rack. Then proceeded to heat the microwave on convection mode at 200 degF for 12-15 mins; at the end of which the puffs needed to be nimbly placed on the now hot baking plate (use a tong or glove  if you don't want souvenir burn marks like me) Bake them for about 15 mins till golden-brown. So the outcome of the experiment? Obviously it worked, the heated plate, perfectly browned the puffs on the underside.

With Cadbury cuddled in my arms, we devoured the yummy 'Pigs in a blanket' (sausage rolled in a flaky pastry).

Happy weekend to folks in middle-east & oh yeah Happy Onam to everyone back home! We are going for a Onam feast lunch with friends tomorrow, super excited!!

Cheers!!!
