Gold Rush

Hello,

Of the numerous forwards which inundate my whats app, the below had me chuckling in mirth.
Ah well, they say grass is always green on the other side ;) I'd be delighted to draw a new dot on that picture closer to the sun in a month or two :D
Of course I do sincerely believe Mumbai will be no less than a city turned into a massive sauna right now and all living beings are clinging any and all quack remedies to beat the heat.

My secret belief is that Mumbaikaar's only tolerance of the summer comes from the fact it also heralds the gold rush. Not the shiny metal kind, but kind of heady, decadent rush of (drum roll please) the Mango season!!!

Crates & crates of golden nectar hoarded exactly like Uncle Scrooge covets his gold. Mango mania grips the kitchen all recipes are painted golden.
I'm not overtly thrilled by the king of fruits (I'm sure you have guessed my quirks by now) but thankfully my husband is definitely enamoured of it. Opposites attract; couldn't be more true!
Now I get to indulge in making all the foodie delights of my beloved hometown despite my own tastes, without turning us in the Addams family :D

So without much fanfare, we too are proud owners of our very own crate of Alphonso mangoes (imported from home of course)
We don't go overboard with the recipes, just au naturale or a tall glass of mango milkshake.

It is the best way to dispose of a 3-4 mangoes in one go. Divest the flesh from the core, blend them with about 1/4th cup of sugar or 2/3rd cup of honey & 2 cardamoms. Whisk it all in half a litre of chilled milk. Serves about 4 tall glasses. A toast to the mother of all seasons ;)

Happy summer hols to folks back home.

Cheers!!!
