Hello,
Yesterday was just another Friday, start of the much awaited weekend, ripe with plans; only to be thwarted by my untimely run with the common cold. Needless to say day one is always the nastiest, right from the fuzzy head, body ache & worst of all insensitive palette.
On such days, the first thought is always to miss my mum; she has a list of 'comfort food for the cold' (if you can call that as a category; I abhor the word 'food for the sick' it has a ominous feeling)
Of course no one likes falling sick; but mum's have that magic (remember HP) which can comfort all ills with just a loving sweep on your forehead & bowlful of comfort food.
However cliched it may sound, but after marriage each daughter has the opportunity to carry the legacy of their mum's care & affection into their own home.
I can never replace the magic of my mum's love when I'm sick; but her recipes are something which make me feel her presence near, despite the geographical distance.
The crazy foodie in me has favourites even in my 'comfort food for cold' and the top position goes to undoubtedly 'tomatoe soup'. No guesses what I grabbed from the vegetable box in my refrigerator yesterday :D
Below recipe is absolutely close to my heart. Two big, ripe tomatoes blanched in 2-3 cup water. Peel off the skin once cooled, chop roughly & blend in mixer to a smooth puree. Heat 2 tsp of oil, crackle a few crushed jeera/cumin seeds, one large clove of crushed garlic & add the tomato puree immediately; as the garlic tends to brown instantly. Sprinkle salt as per taste. Bring up to a boil, add half tsp of cornflour diluted in few drops of water. Then lower flame & let the soup thicken. One bowl of comfort & love is ready. A handful of roughly chopped fresh bread croutons is a must for me ;)

I'm much better today, still recovering though. My head is already swarming with options of today' comfort food...gez I'm such a glutton!!!
Cheers!!!
